Ringworm Treatment

Ringworm is a type of fungal infection that affects many people across the world. Ringworm occurs when the fungi find a warm and humid place on the body in which they can grow. It is for this reason that ringworm is often found in the groin area as this area tends not to be ventilated properly throughout the day. The ringworm fungi infect the skin causing a type of ringworm rash to occur. This is represented by scaly dry skin which can often be very itchy. The area around the rash will have lesions. In many cases, ringworm causes a circular shaped rash to appear on the skin, although this does not happen always. In ancient medicine, it was thought that ringworm was caused by some sort of parasitic worm, but in reality, it is caused by this fungal infection.

Ringworm treatment uses anti-fungal creams which are applied to the affected area. The treatment for ringworm will begin as soon as a diagnosis of the condition is made. This diagnosis may be partial so that ringworm treatments can be employed before the skin cultures appear positive in laboratory testing which takes a lot of time. Ringworm treatment usually takes a couple of weeks and requires the regular application of the prescribed ointment or cream. In many cases, this form of cream application does not have the desired effect. In most of these cases, the infection is partially cured or contained. In such a situation, a doctor may have to prescribe oral anti-fungal medication. This is also the case when there is a severe ringworm problem that has manifested itself with multiple areas of infection.

There are also some useful and important ringworm remedies that can be applied to either prevent the condition from occurring or to speed up the scope of recovery. Ringworm tends to develop in an area that is poorly ventilated, warm and humid. This tends to affect people in warm tropical climates as the climatic conditions are perfect for the development of such conditions within a person’s clothing. Areas like the groin should be kept cool and clean at all times to avoid ringworm infection. Some people use anti-fungal powders or simple talcum powder on such areas. The powder ensures that the area is dry and therefore not suitable for the growth of fungus. Ringworm is completely treatable and when an individual is cured of the condition, it will not recur as long as the recommended hygiene steps are followed.
